An Iraqi military base was hit by air strikes

An Iraqi government security official and a Shia militia commander said that the Shia militia suffered an air attack on a military base in the western Anbar province on the 22nd.

The two sources, who did not want to be named, told the Associated Press reporter that the base attacked was 120 kilometers away from the Syrian border. The bomb did not hit the base and fell on the outside. There were no casualties. It was not immediately clear whether the air strikes were carried out by drones or jets.

The Iraqi Shia militia "Popular Mobilization Organization" has recently encountered many similar attacks, either at military bases or weapons depots.

The Popular Mobilization Organization accused Israel of being the initiator of the attack, which was aimed at striking Iran's military targets in Iraq. Many armed forces under the Popular Mobilization Organization are believed to be supported by Iran.

The Associated Press, the New York Times and other media previously reported, using US and Israeli officials as sources, that some of the air strikes in Iraq were carried out by Israel launched.

Israel did not respond to these accusations, but Israeli officials hinted last year that they might take action against Iran's "military assets" in Iraq.

The Iraqi government previously condemned the air strikes against Shia militias as a violation of Iraq's sovereignty. (Gao Bingbing) [Xinhua News Agency Micro Feature]
